Softball Rules and Regulations Across Governing Bodies
| Softball is the nations most popular participant sport with nearly 40 million Americans playing at least one game every year. While most games are pretty simple back yard or recreation games, the more competitive leagues and teams can be a bit confusing when it comes to rules. Softball would seem like a sport with basic rules played the same around the nation but there are many different twists and changes between the various sactioning softball bodies. Every league including the USSSA, ASA, ISA, NSA, WSL, and even the International Softball Federation have different types of approved softball bats, types or styles of uniforms, distances of the mounds, and how substitutions and other in-game factors are handled. Even more confusing can be the differences between slow pitch and fastpitch softball. Both have a basic set of rules regarding game play but additional rules and differences in rules can be a problem if you're familiar with one but not the other. Find a list of fastpitch softball rules and slow pitch softball rules for every governing body online to become familiar with how your league operates. |
