Personal Injury Attorneys and Chiropractors Work Together to Help Patients
| Chiropractic care, in particular the advanced specialty treatment of Atlas Orthogonal care, has gained national respect and exposure due to its effectiveness in treating soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains and other injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents. Recently three nationally recognized MDs published an article in the Journal of Whiplash and Related Disorders after completing a series of case studies. Jack Carleton M.D., Richard Hammond, M.D. and Joseph Obebe, M.D. concluded that the effects of whiplash are devastating to victims. The study also concluded that patients who received Atlas Orthogonal care after car accidents experienced decreased healing and recovery times in comparison to those patients that did not receive chiropractic care. Dr. David Nygaard treats victims of whiplash at his office, Atlas Family Chiropractic, in Asheville North Carolina. He says that, "After an injury like whiplash occurs, inflammation reaches its peak at around 72 hours. It's best that anyone with soft tissue injury see their doctor and then their chiropractor as soon as possible. This helps to decrease the amount of time it will take your body to heal and therefore decrease pain sooner." Why It's Important to See Your Chiropractor Right after an Accident When you experience a personal injury as the result of an accident that is not your fault or an accident that you are partially at fault for, it's important to quickly seek professional assistance. The gentle noninvasive approach of Atlas Orthogonal can be used immediately after trauma once the necessary diagnostics are completed. And, Dr. Nygaard is the only chiropractor in western North Carolina that has digital x-rays on site. Medical doctors and chiropractors are both clinical in the eyes of insurance companies. The difference, clinically, is that chiropractors do not prescribe pharmaceutical medication. Dr. Nygaard consistently works cooperatively with medical doctors in co-managing a myriad of health concerns, including soft tissue injury. He routinely refers to primary care doctors, or other appropriate health professionals when advocating for patient accident care. He explains it from the insurance companies' perspective: "Medication is not always the best solution to every health concern, but insurance companies often place a value on your injuries based on the amount of pain you experienced as a result of your injuries. This means evidence is often necessary to substantiate personal injury claims and justify the amount of money you are seeking for compensation of pain and suffering. Medication taken is a very tangible evidence of the pain you claim to experience as a result of your personal injury. Because of this, it's often best to work with a personal injury attorney." A good personal injury attorney can advise you on seeking care that will accurately reflect the pain and devastation of your injury. He or she will also walk you through the process of seeking a referral and deal with the insurance companies so that your chiropractic care is covered. A personal injury attorney will also tell you to maintain contact with your primary physician throughout your chiropractic care and have him or her document your progress toward recovery. In fact, personal injury attorneys will often deal directly with the insurance companies on your behalf to ensure that your best interests are being met and that you receive the treatment that is best for you. "Many times it is advantageous for patients to have a personal injury attorney. We routinely advise patients when it's in their best interest to consult an attorney and will make the referral for them," says Dr. Nygaard. "It allows the patient to not be stressed about the paperwork and money and to focus on rehabilitating and healing their body." Once a whiplash patient is able to get in for treatment, their body can begin to return to its natural or orthogonal position and the process of healing can begin.
