More Females in the Physician Profession

When one immediately thinks of a physician, typically a male comes to mind. Generally speaking men do dominate in the physician department. But over the past 30 years, the number of female physicians has grown tremendously. Not only this, but many more female students are becoming enrolled in becoming physicians.

According to the American Medical Association, in 1970 there were a total of 334,028 physicians practicing in the United States. Out of this number 308, 627 were men. It is evident that during this time, it was obvious that males were the majority in the profession. But according to the same source as of 2006 males make up 72.2% of the physician environment while women make up 27.8%. There is a tremendous increase since the statistic in 1970 where the female percentage was simply 7.6. Though due to the number it is evident that men are still predominately the majority, women are steadily becoming physicians more and more.

Part of working in the medical field is being able to locate and wear the appropriate attire. Back in the 1970's being that women were the minority; many companies did not offer much of a selection for medical lab coats. But, as indicated with the statistics provided, times have changed. Now there are several websites that offer lab coats for women. One in particular that has been highly recommended by numerous magazines, news reports, and ultimately fellow peers is the Medelita company website.

This particular website began by providing solely women lab coats, before expanding into including garments for men as well. This company has created their lab coats with the client in mind. Qualities include extremely comfortable attire for the long lasting work days, as well as highly technological fabric for easy clean-up and wrinkle resistance for a more professional look.

It is evident that when thinking of the medical field, men are predominately the gender that is the majority. But as indicated by the American Medical Association, females are slowly becoming equal with men as far as the numbers of physicians practicing medicine throughout the United States. Regardless, if it is men or women, the individuals need to be able to locate comfortable work attire. After all, most of the time is spent in those particular clothes rather than those worn outside of the work environment.
