Garden Sheds and a New Home
| When we move into a new build home quite often the first thing we do is install a garden shed. It is probably the most useful addition to any new home and there are always many used to which it can be put. There are so many variants of the garden shed that we are literally spoiled for choice. They come in a large variety of construction styles and we can have just about any size that we want. There are a number of ways of obtaining a shed. They can be installed professionally, we can purchase shed construction kits, or they can be built from scratch. Shed construction kits are probably the most popular method, and most DIY establishments and garden centres have a wide range of shed kits that vary in price from under £100 to several thousand pounds. For very small gardens it is possible to obtain tiny sheds with base dimensions of only 3 feet by 4 feet and 7 feet tall. This might seem tiny but it is surprising how much can be fitted into such a space, especially if a few shelves and hooks are added. An inventory of the items stored in one such shed reveals the following: The floor houses an electric lawnmower, a trolley and a high pressure water jet. Resting on the floor are a variety of garden implements including an assortment of spades, garden forks, a rake and a hoe. On a shelf retro-fitted to an internal wall there is a basket that contains hand tools such as a trowel, a small fork, several pairs of secateurs, a ball of garden twine, a pair of sheers. Also on the shelf are a variety of bottles containing such things as bug killers, weed killers, fertilisers and slug pellets. There is a second shelf underneath that contains a number of seed trays. From hooks attached to the rear internal wall hang a variety of implements including garden sheers, lawn edge trimmers a cable extension for the lawnmower. A number of bamboo canes can be found propped against the far right corner. What would we do without it? |
