Garden Furniture: Creating The Perfect Midnight Environment
| Well chosen garden furniture can conjure up the most memorable nights of a person's life. Imagine for a moment if you will, your midnight garden. Imagine friends laughing and joking, conversing and sharing. Imagine the moonlit canvas above with stars pinpricking the darkness all over to let the universal light shine through. Perhaps a more romantic setting, you and your chosen, some wine, soft music and nothing more than the silence that only the dead of night can bring. Perhaps you're enjoying the irony of reclining on a pair of sun loungers. Maybe you're cuddled up on a garden sofa. This sounds like bliss except that there's only one thing missing... fire. All the other elements are in place, but the night can be cold and the dark can be distracting. Including an outdoor garden fire into the mix guarantees the perfect setting for whatever it is you have planned. I should be clear though, I don't mean monstrous campfires that scorch the ground around it, or faux fire halogen lamps. What I have in mind is something altogether more special. Flueless fires that are created purely to enhance the mood and atmosphere are the ideal additions to your garden furniture collection. Within the realm of garden furniture and fires specifically, there is a model known simply as ‘The Tower'. It was created by the famed architect and designer Celeste Dell'Anna who is responsible for some of the most breathtaking interior designs that can be found anywhere, some can be seen in a certain Alpine villa, the motor yacht of Count Corrado Augusta and the Chesa Veglia Club in St. Mortiz. The fire was inspired by the grand lighting features found at wealthy family homes throughout the height of the Roman Empire that were used to display social status. As you can imagine, the romance of having the elite Roman status symbols in your back garden to light and warm your evening is not lost on many. As garden furniture goes, few pieces are infused with such history and class as this. That's not to say other European designs are lacking in these areas, only that finding such special creations is rare. Of course ‘The Tower' isn't the only flueless fire worth looking at, but it is perhaps the only one featured in Hell's Kitchen (the one run by Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay, not the gritty Manhattan version). A garden fire of contemporary style adds a significant presence to the garden setting, especially at dusk and indeed at midnight. Even though the flueless fires are usually fuelled by bio ethanol (a clean burning fuel), the warmth produced by the structures themselves can be felt from a long way away and the light it provides is never overpowering but always comforting. So once all is said and done, adding a contemporary fire or two to your garden furniture collection may just be exactly what you need to create a night (and many more) to remember. |
