Skirmishing in War Board Games War board game is a classification of board games that depict either a non-fictional or fictional military operation. Strategy is required for these games and they have difficulty level from simple to high level. First to be released in 1954 was the Tactics by Charles Robert which had two editions, Tactics II and 25th Anniversary, where its game mechanics became the benchmark for the other board games. The Axis and Allies game, themed after World War II, can be played by two to five players and depends also in strategy. Players can play as Axis or as Allies depending upon player’s preference. This game has revisions such as Axis and Allies Revised, Axis and Allies Battle of the Bulge, Axis and Allies D-Day, and Axis and Allies Guadalcanal. The Risk is another known war board game where the players struggle to dominate 42 territories. Some choices of war board games are War on Terror, Memoir ’44, Stratego, A House Divided, and Advance Squad Leader. Intelligent Deduction Board Games Deductive board games entail making out judgments out of a given premise and logical thinking of game players. A central mechanic of these games would include deductive reasoning to win the game. There are two extensive categories of deductive board games namely the abstract deductive games which do not follow a theme and the investigation deductive games in which players act out game characters. An example of abstract deductive board game is mastermind, a code-breaking game of 2 players acting as a code maker and code breaker. The goal is for the code breaker to guess the peg patterns made by the code maker in a specific number of turns. The Cluedo is a definite example of an investigation deductive game with a murder scene setting where players get the role of a certain character and use logical reasoning to identify the person responsible for the crime. Other picks of deduction board games include Black Box, Mystery Mansion, and Coda. Playing in Two Player Board Games There are board games that are made exclusively for two individuals to play. These are some board games that you can play along with your friend, wife or special someone. The Abalone is a strategy board game played by each player having two sets of fourteen marbles each in a hexagonal game board with 61 spaces. The game is played by driving the opponent’s marbles out of the game board. Another game is the Chinese Checkers and is played on a star-shaped board by moving the pieces to the opposite end of the player’s base. The Othello is a game played on an 8 row and 8 column board also with two sets of pieces and its goal of retaining the most number of pieces at the end of the game. Other board games that can be played by only two players are Checkers, Suguroku, Kamisado, Stratego, Plateau, Obsession, Backgammon, Cross and Circle, and Downfall. |
