Free Poker Game Tips - Hands and Image
| Let’s start with hands. In any poker game, be it free poker games or high stakes WSOP, the hands you play all depend on the persona (image) you want to display at the tables. For a start I would suggest the tight/aggressive style to start off with. This type of style is ideal for the patient beginner and a core style of play to keep with you no matter high how you shoot. You should only be playing J's or better and betting them anywhere from 3x-5x the blind to all in i.e. 50/100 you bet 300-500 or all-in. How do you know what to bet? Knowing which one to do is quite simple if the 300-500 is a lot to you at the time its best to go all-in. If you have lots of money I’d say 100x the blind or more (50/100=10,000) bet the 5x in this case $500. If you’re somewhere in between the two go with $300 to $400 depending on which you are closer to. In Free poker games of course this may vary and the amounts may be much smaller or play money. The important thing is to learn the relationships. Pro's will tell you to continue your aggression after the flop regardless of if you hit or not and here are the reasons why. First off they may have missed, if you’re betting correct pre-flop you should be getting all the bad hands out of play. So if the board is low chances are they missed too. This gives you an advantage because they have to still call you. If the board is higher then your say JJ, 84K flop, it is also a good idea to bet because they may not have hit that K and betting is the only way to find out. Also if the board is low and you’re holding AQ or AK you still have a little less then a 1 in 3 chance of hitting and again they first have to call you to see if you have anything else. Once you've played this way for awhile you'll have done a few things: 1) Learned to wait for better cards. 2) Learned that even with the best cards you still may not win (knowing this can be helpful with "tilt" later on) 3) You have implanted what the right cards to bet are in your mind. After a few days/weeks/months practice in free poker games, whatever you feel you need, you can start "limping in". Limping in is when you just call a hand. When and where are the big questions when it comes to limping in, your placement at the table and pot odds are what you want to be looking at when choosing what to play. If you just want to play poker for some fun then poker can be very simple…but it will never be very profitable for you. If you want to be real good and have a shot at making good money from the tables then you’ll need to learn all this sort of complex stuff. Don’t worry, it may sound impossible now but once you know it it’ll be second nature. Just read, learn and practice application in low risk free poker games and tournaments and you’ll get there. |
