Top 5 ways to have fun getting fit

Getting fit is not simply about improving your muscles and body. You can also have fun and get fit at the same time. You can have fun by involving a friend, partner or child in an exercise you are doing. You could use new video games technology that allows you to get fit. You could join a health clubs, or try running marathons, which are a huge, satisfying challenge and can combine fun and fitness well. Below are the top five ways of having fun when getting fit.

Try finding a ‘buddy' who will do the same thing as you are doing. This can be a friend, colleague, partner or child, who provides company when you are getting fit. This can be a walking buddy, running buddy or cycling buddy. This is good as the person will want to push you, and themselves making sure you have an incentive to exercise. If you are walking with this person you can also have a conversation with them whilst walking, cycling can encourage team work and races, and it's the same with running. Excellent running clubs and cycling clubs are often run by health clubs and fitness centres.

You can get fit at home in your living room. There are several ways to do this. You may want to do aerobics in front of the television, lift weights or even use games to get fit. Some brand new video gaming systems have equipment which promotes exercise. This allows you to experience playing the game itself and has been proven to be a good provider of exercise. It is so easy to be wrapped up in the fun of the game that you do not realise how many calories you have burned as a result.

Health clubs can be fun and allow a balance between fitness and relaxation. Health clubs offer a range of different services including aerobics classes, family activities, badminton and tennis courts, swimming activities and spa treatments. Many people have fun with relaxing swims in the pool and spa treatments whilst getting fit by active swimming and playing tennis and badminton on the courts. In fact all these activities provide both fun and fitness.

You can run marathons or charity fun runs which many people do for fun and to raise money. Some wear silly costumes and run with a certain theme giving them a chance to enjoy themselves, get fit and raise money for good causes. They are also getting fit in that acquiring sponsorship gives them an incentive to complete the run and get fit as a result. It may lead them to do more fun runs and marathons. There is also a good sense of achievement of having completed such a feat.

Taking up a sport for fun is another way to get fit without having to get too serious. Sports including five-a-side football, tennis, and swimming are all popular. Swimming especially is popular with all age groups and many fitness centres offer discounts on swimming training and swimming tournaments and activities people can take part in. Swimming is also a key sport for retired people, as it helps breathing techniques. Sport gives a fun competitive edge, with winning the main prize. But an extra bonus is the healthiness that comes with it so you can be fit and having fun at the same time.

These key ways of having fun and keeping fit at the same time are continually popular. A lot of people have walking, running and cycling ‘buddies', even gaming equipment can provide immense fun and help you to keep fit at the same time. Others visit health clubs to combine the two and enter fun runs which is exactly what it says - fun and fitness at the same time, the same applies to taking up a sport. Therefore keeping fit does not have to be a burden as you can also have fun from most methods of getting fit.
