United Kingdoms Most Dangerous Jobs part 2

Welcome to the second part in our two part articles about the most dangerous jobs in the UK. Previously we have looked at the jobs of Fisherman and Bomb disposal Expert and the dangers that these two workforces face on a daily basis.

Lorry and commercial Drivers
Although this might seem as a nice and easy job which just requires sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle you may not be aware of the additional dangers that these workers have to face. Road Traffic Accident claims are often undertaken by many of these drivers as more than 54,000 accidents a year involve work vehicles. A majority of these accidents can be put down to a lack of regular breaks and unrealistic deadlines. This stresses the point of not driving whilst sleepy and allowing your self a good amount of time to get to your destination.

Oil or Gas Rigger
This is another job with a high chance of danger and nothing more shows that than the piper Alpha oil and gas field disaster that happened in 1988 costing 168 people their lives. To this day that incident is still cited as the worst offshore disaster ever seen. Fortunately such disasters are not common yet this is still a dangerous job. The dangers that these workings face doesn't seem to be enough as now these offshore platforms are targets for terrorists to get noticed and proves to be an ideal place for kidnappings, as these sort of acts usually mean that these large oil companies have to suspend trading and is something that will often make the news when it occurs.

Construction Workers
between 2006 and 2007 there were 77 fatal injuries to construction workers which scale up to be around 3.7 workers per 100,000. This is due to the high risk high demand for the job. As the Olympics for 2012 approach then we may even see this figure rise.

Steeplejacks and scaffolders are at the greatest risk. The majority of deaths are from falling from heights. It seems that this can be dangerous no matter how much experience you have as each job is on unfamiliar territory.

Many people never suffers life changing accidents at work yet many people still suffer from them. You may be titles to compensation by making a Personal Injury Claim from accidents caused in the workplace. Be careful when undertaking any work related take as it is important that you keep your self at risk as much as possible.
