Maximizing an Accounting Course
| In a society as highly commercialized as ours, many people make their living as accountants. The term "accountant" is actually more of an umbrella, pulling together all the different forms of accounting, which can stretch from simple payroll duties and filing income tax returns to examining fixed manufacturing costs and production capacities. The number of people making a living in the accounting industry is much higher than anyone would ever expect. These individuals may not all have a Bachelor degree or bear the official title of certified public accountant (CPA), chartered accountant or auditor, but many people do keep books, crunch numbers, create financial charts and compose profit and loss statistics. Of course, the higher the education level, the more prestigious the position will be and the bigger the title plaque on the office door. Having proper education and qualifications in accounting will open doors to career opportunities within areas, such as: • Accounting and Finance, e.g. banking institutions • Marketing • Information Technology • Human Resource Administration • E-Commerce • International Trade • Economics • Being self-employed • Consulting • Management • Strategy & Business Development • Non-Profit Organizations Accountants have many options. They can either start their own practice taking on private individuals and commercial entities as their clients, or they can opt to work for an employer. Small companies will usually hire a private account to work for them part time, while medium size businesses, or large corporations, will employ their own accountants. The demands of these jobs are far more involved than basic bookkeeping and may require continuous involvement in business law and ethics, taxation, cost analysis, and budget control. Taking accounting courses at prominent institutes, such as Carrick, will create an exciting array of possibilities. Graduates can apply at local businesses or, depending on the courses they completed, can even explore international markets. Accountants are in high demand anywhere in the world and with the economy constantly expanding, technological advances and more borders opening up, can basically settle down anywhere they want. Employers today are very particular about who they hire, because the growth of their business depends largely on their staff. They prefer educated employees who have a degree from a reputable training facility, usually an established school they are familiar with. When signing up for classes, students should verify that the school they picked is respected in the field. It may come as a surprise, but not everyone offering accounting classes has an excellent reputation, or is legitimate. It would not be the first time an educational establishment is a scam, staying in business long enough to cash in the enrollment checks and vanish. Taking courses has many advantages and aside from learning the trade, students will, in all likelihood, also make new friends. Through their newly found connections and the help of their teachers, they can start building a network that can help them eventually land a job. PS: Although bean counter means a person, such as an accountant or financial officer who takes care of quantifications, this informal expression has a rather negative undertone and should not be used. |
