| When it comes to arranging car or auto insurance, one of the things you should think about is how likely your car is to be stolen. Where you live may have a big factor in the likelihood of vehicle theft, but the make and model of car can also determine whether or not it's appealing to car thieves. Car and auto insurance premiums in the UK can vary considerably depending on the vehicle you want to insure. Take a look at the 10 most stolen vehicles in the UK for 2010* below - some of them may surprise you. 1. Ford Transit The most stolen vehicle in the UK in 2010 was the Ford Transit van, appearing on auto insurance claim forms for theft more than any other vehicle. The fact that it's a van and has the potential to be holding a valuable cargo is undoubtedly a major factor in the high incidence of thefts. 2. Ford Fiesta The Mk4 and Mk5 models of Ford Fiesta were the most stolen cars during last year. Their sheer volume on the UK's roads is partly to blame for the amount of thefts. They're perhaps not an obvious choice for higher auto insurance premiums, but nonetheless, they are popular with car thieves in this country. 3. Vauxhall Astra The Vauxhall Astra is a British motoring icon. It may not be the fastest or best looking car on the road, but it's popular with car thieves as well as the general motoring public. If you're thinking of buying an Astra it's probably wise to not go for third party only auto insurance. 4. Volkswagen Golf The Volkswagen Golf is another staple of the British motoring scene. Unfortunately, like many cars, the older models are lacking a bit in security and as such a prime target for theft. 5. Vauxhall Corsa On the face of it you wouldn't expect to see the no-frills Vauxhall Corsa on any list for stolen vehicles. However, car insurance claims for the theft of Corsas are commonplace. 6. Ford Focus Very popular cars such as the Ford Focus means there's always a demand for parts. In turn, this means they are popular models to steal. 7. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Another van makes the top 10 list of most stolen vehicles in the UK. Poor security, large load space and potentially high scrap metal value all combine to make the Sprinter an auto insurance company's nightmare in terms of theft rates. 8. Ford Mondeo Like the Ford Fiesta, the vast numbers of Mondeos on the road mean they are a visible and popular target for car thieves and a well known vehicle amongst car insurance companies for being stolen. 9. Ford Escort The Ford Escort may long since have stopped rolling off the production line but their age and popularity still make them popular with criminals. With around 20 million of them manufactured over the years, many an auto insurance claim has been made for a missing Ford Escort. 10. Vauxhall Vectra Production of the Vauxhall Vectra may have ceased in 2008 but its parts are still highly sought after, making it the 10th most stolen car in the UK last year. |
